In 1927, the United States Mint issued a total of more than 6.2 million Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles. The majority of the coins were struck at either the Philadelphia Mint (2.946 million coins) and the San Francisco Mint (3.107 million coins). The Denver Mint contributed a modest 180,000 coins to the overall total.
All of these 1927 Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins are available to you in Mint State 64 condition. Coins with this grade have average mint luster for the age, with several small contact marks in groups and one or two moderate marks. It is also possible the coins will have one or two small patches of hairlines.
On the obverse of the 1927 Pre-33 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin, you will find the front-facing effigy of Liberty. This design depicts Liberty walking forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The field behind her includes the U.S. Capitol Building, rays of light, and a ring of 48 stars.
The reverse side of 1927 Pre-33 $20 Gold Double Eagle Coins comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle. The eagle is shown here in left-profile relief as it glides through the air flying over the sun while it rises from the horizon at the edge of the coin.
