Still the longest-running form of paper money used in the United States, the United States Note was one of the first forms of paper money ever issued by the federal government. Available from 1862 to 1971, the US Note was acceptable in US commerce for 109 years. The modern Federal Reserve Notes will not surpass the US Note until 2024 in terms of longevity in use. Right now, Very Fine 1917 $2 Legal Tender Notes are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Note Highlights:
Each 1917 $2 Legal Tender Note listed here comes with a plastic currency sleeve. The notes are available to you in Very Fine condition. Notes in this condition are free of major detractions. Possible flaws include only light to moderate wear, light to mild soiling, and fold lines. Notes in the best Very Fine range have only seven to 10 folds, but most have numerous fold lines.
United States Notes were issued by the United States with the signatures of the Register of the Treasury and the Treasurer of the United States. These signature combinations varied as different individuals held these posts. For the 1917 Series release, there are four possible signature combinations and none of the four are considered more unique or rare than the others. Additionally, 1917 Series Legal Tender Notes have serial numbers and Treasury seals printed with red ink.
The obverse of 1917 $2 Legal Tender Notes features a portrait of President Thomas Jefferson on the left and the U.S. Capitol Building in the center of the design field. The portrait of President Jefferson featured here remains largely the same as the one released on the United States Note in 1869, the first time that Jefferson appeared on the notes.
On the reverse field of 1917 $2 Legal Tender Notes is an ornate pattern with the denomination of the note printed several times in different variations. At the center of the field is a large “2,” with the text denomination printed above and below. The Arabic numeral “2” also features in the four corners of the note design.
