On the obverse of the 1904 Liberty Gold Double Eagle is a bust of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1849 by James B. Longacre, the portrait shows Liberty in left-profile relief with the coronet crown on her head and a ring of 13 stars around the bust.
The reverse side of 1904 Pre-33 $20 Double Eagles comes with a depiction of the Great Seal of the United States. An ornate version of the heraldic eagle, it boasts an eagle in front-facing relief with a large US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace.
