In 1902, the United States Mint was nearing the end of its Morgan Silver Dollar Series. Issued annually as of 1878, the coins would only be issued three more times in total after 1902: 1903-1904 and 1921. Today, certified 1902-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The New Orleans Mint was integral in the production of Morgan Silver Dollars for much of the program’s history. The mint reopened following the Civil War and Reconstruction in 1879 and immediately began striking Morgan Dollars. It issued the coins until 1904 when the program ended and, following its closure in 1909, was unavailable to strike Morgan Dollars in 1921.
All of the 1902-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins offered here come in MS63 condition. Coins with this grade have slightly impaired mint luster with numerous small contact marks, scattered heavy marks, small hairlines that are visible with the naked eye, and the potential for detracting scuff marks.
On the obverse of the 1902-O Morgan Dollar Coins, you will find the left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1878 by George T. Morgan, the design shows Liberty wearing a coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair with a Phrygian cap on her head.
The reverse side of 1902 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Also created by George T. Morgan, this design shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. This design notably lacks the US national shield.
