The Morgan Silver Dollar, named after its designer George T. Morgan, was a silver coin minted by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. It was introduced as a result of the Bland-Allison Act of 1878, which required the U.S. government to purchase a large quantity of silver and mint it into silver dollars.
For its part, the New Orleans Mint issued Morgan Dollars 26 times during the program’s history. The mint was still closed in 1878 when the program started, having been shuttered during the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era. With its closure in 1909, the mint also was not available to strike the last Morgan Dollars in 1921.
On the obverse of 1900-O Morgan Dollars, you will find a depiction of Lady Liberty. This visual shows Liberty in left-profile relief. With a Phrygian cap on her head, she also wears a coronet crown and a laurel wreath in her hair.
The reverse side of the 1900 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin comes with an image of the heraldic eagle. This design from George T. Morgan shows the eagle in front-facing relief with no US national shield. With flexed wings, the eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
These 1900-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you in Mint State 65 condition. Coins with this grade showcase high-quality mint luster with only a few small, scattered contact marks or two larger marks. It is also possible the coins will have one or two small patches of hairlines.
