Coin Highlights:
The obverse of all 1896 Morgan Dollar Coins features an effigy of Lady Liberty. She’s shown in left profile wearing the Phrygian cap on her head with a coronet crown and laurel wreath. The design also features 13 stars along with the issuing year and “E Pluribus Unum.”
A 19th-century version of the heraldic eagle of the United States is depicted on the reverse of all 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. This image features a front-facing bald eagle with its wings spread and its head looking to the right. The eagle is clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons.
All 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins will arrive in a PCGS protective plastic slab. All coins in this product listing will be graded MS63 from the PCGS. Coins in this condition have a slightly impaired, though attractive mint luster. The coins will have only a few detracting flaws present in the prime focal areas, with a few scattered hairlines and either several minor contact marks or a handful of heavier contact marks present on the surface of the coins.
While four different mints struck Morgan Silver Dollars from 1878-1904, the Philadelphia Mint consistently struck the most year to year. In total, over 300 million Morgan Silver Dollars have been struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The Morgan Silver Dollar is named for the Assistant Engraver at the US Mint in 1878, George T. Morgan. He designed both the obverse and reverse of this coin.
