Throughout the 28 years that the US Mint issued Morgan Silver Dollars, the Philadelphia Mint was a constant in producing the coins. In fact, the only other mint to issue the coins every year was the San Francisco Mint. Today, 1888 Morgan Silver Dollars in certified condition are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 1880s was one of the most productive periods for Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. The Philadelphia Mint alone would issue some 150 million Morgan Dollars during the decade, with production peaking between 1887 and 1889. The 1888 release was the fourth highest of the decade and the fifth highest overall from Philadelphia.
All of these 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in MS63 condition. Coins with this grade have slightly impaired luster, scattered, small contact marks, a few heavier marks, and the potential for small patches of hairlines visible without magnification.
On the obverse of the 1888 Morgan Dollar Coin, you will find the image of Lady Liberty. This design depicts the head of Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her head. She is also shown wearing a coronet crown and a laurel wreath.
The reverse side of 1888 Morgan Silver Dollars comes with a vision of the heraldic eagle. Both the obverse and reverse designs come from George T. Morgan, and his heraldic eagle effigy on this side is unique in its lack of the US national shield. The front-facing bald eagle has spread wings with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
