In 1887, the Philadelphia Mint struck an astonishing 20.290 million coins in the Morgan Dollar Series. This mintage figure represents the second-highest total from the 1880s behind only the 1889 release of Morgans, with Philadelphia issuing more than 21.7 million coins that year.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse side of 1887 Morgan Dollar Coins, you will find a left-profile bust of Liberty. Created in a 19th-century artistic vision, this image shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with the laurel wreath and coronet crown also on her head.
The heraldic eagle of the United States is on the reverse field of 1887 Morgan Dollars. This design was also created by George T. Morgan and shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief. With outstretched wings, the eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
