In the 1880s, the Morgan Silver Dollar reached mintage heights that would never be seen again in the series. The New Orleans Mint was responsible for a large number of Morgan Dollars issued during the decade, coming in second each year and for the decade as a whole behind the Philadelphia Mint. Today, 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you in certified condition online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
No decade in the history of the Morgan Silver Dollar Series saw the production that the 1880s experienced. For most of the decade, four mints contributed to the production of the coins: Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Carson City. Among these, Carson City was the only mint to miss date marks in the 1880s, failing to strike the coins from 1886 to 1888.
All of these 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in Mint State 64 condition. Coins with this grade have average mint luster for the age with several small contact marks grouped together, as well as one or two moderate marks. One or two small patches of hairlines are also possible.
On the obverse of the 1885-O Morgan Dollar is the image of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. Designed by George T. Morgan, this visual shows Liberty with a Phrygian cap on her head and the laurel wreath and coronet crown in her hair.
The reverse side of the 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin features the image of the heraldic eagle. The national emblem is shown here in a design that also comes from Morgan. It depicts an eagle in front-facing relief with only the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
