In keeping with the tradition of the series, the Stegosaurus design is shown in right-profile relief. All herbivores featured in the series are found in right-profile relief on the obverse, while carnivores are shown in left-profile relief on the obverse.
One of the most recognizable features of the Stegosaurus is the row of large, bony plates running along its back and the array of sharp spikes on its tail. These plates and spikes served as defensive mechanisms against predators and were also likely used for display and communication among members of their own species.
For the obverse of the Lost World Collection Stegosaurus Silver Round, you will find the effigy of the upper torso of the Stegosaurus. The tail of the Stegosaurus, with its impressive arrangement of spikes, is often referred to as the "thagomizer." This term was coined in a humorous manner by the cartoonist Gary Larson in a 1982 edition of his comic strip "The Far Side."
