With the rise in popularity of motor vehicles, state governments needed a way to keep tabs on cars that were entering and exiting state lines. As such, Massachusetts became the first state, in 1903, to issue plates to the state population. This trend caught on and by 1918 all 48 states were issuing them. Now, the Stackin’ Across America Series has brought the 50 unique state plates to life in full color on silver bars. The obverse field of the Stacking Across America West Virginia License Plate Silver Bar displays the current plate design for West Virginia. This features a white background with a dark blue portion at the top that displays the state name. An array of blue and yellow stripes are seen at the bottom with the phrase “Wild, Wonderful.”
An American flag is on the reverse side of the 1 oz Colorized Stacking Across America West Virginia License Plate Bar. The flag is seen flowing in the wind with the name of the series displayed in front of it. This image is consistent on all bars in the series.
Each 1 oz Colorized Stacking Across America West Virginia License Plate Silver Bar will arrive in its own capsule to preserve the condition of the silver. Each bar, thanks to UV printing technology, boasts a full-color spectrum. Each state bar has a mintage limited to just 1,000.
West Virginia first required plates to be displayed in 1905. The design of the plate has remained largely consistent over the years. The design featured on the obverse of this bar has remained essentially the same since 1995. Prior to that, a yellow state outline was featured from 1976-1995.
