The American Western Skulls Collection from Osborne Mint is available in commemoration of the Old West. America was founded along the East Coast of North America by early European settlers who threw off the chains of British oppression in favor of free governance. To claim the rest of the modern-day continental US, American settlers would have to tame the West and clash with its inhabitants in the process.
On the obverse of the 1 oz Proof American Western Skulls Indian Chief Silver round you’ll find the first design of the series. In this front-facing effigy there is the skeletal facial figure of an individual with full Native American headdress. Although the individual’s flesh is missing, there are two haunting eyes that stare out at the viewer from beneath the full, feathered headdress. A pair of tomahawks are featured in a crossed position below the skull, while the word “Liberty” flashes across the top of the design field.
The reverse of all American Wester Skulls Indian Chief Silver Rounds has the fried eagle design. This twist on the American heraldic eagle features the US heraldic shield, 13 stars above, and the phrase “E Pluribus Unum” on a banner in the eagle’s beak. However, this bird has no feathers on its frame. Instead, there is but a skeletal bird holding the national shield, olive branch of peace, and arrows of war.
The new American Western Skulls Collection of silver rounds are produced by Osborne Mint. With roots traceable back to 1835, this is the nation’s oldest private mint still in operation today.
