KOMSCO’s Zi:Sin Series is increasingly popular as each new design in the collection arrives for investors. The collection is a Korean twist on Chinese lunar-themed coin designs, such as those in high demand from the Perth Mint, Royal Mint of England, and the Royal Canadian Mint. What makes the KOMSCO series distinctive is the use of the 12 Guardians from Korean cultural lore. Though each release features design elements nodding to the lunar animal on the Zodiac, each one also represents one of the guardians serving as the leading commanders in God’s armies. The new Scrofa Silver Medal is now available from JM Bullion and this third release comes with a special surprise sure to attract investors and collectors.
The Zi:Sin Series from KOMSCO depicts each of the 12 Guardians from God’s armies. These individuals are charged with watching for evil to arise from any of the 12 directions of the world. The guardians each bring their own unique skills to bear in the battle against evil, and each one takes a leading role in battle when God requires the forces of good to rally in defenses of the mortal world. Scrofa is the third to feature in the series. Like other lunar-themed collections, the Zi:Sin Series has just one design per date mark.
Known as Justice Haechi, Scrofa is tasked with guarding the sacred Salt Lake. Her distinct skills include the ability to replicate her figure in battle to confuse and overwhelm the enemy, as well as the power to use all five senses to detect the enemy coming from long distances away. Scrofa’s position as the guardian of the Sacred Lake is critical because it is the connection point between the mortal world and the immortal world, and often serves as a place for evil to break into the mortal world.
For the reverse of the 2019 1 oz South Korean Zi:Sin Scrofa Medal, KOMSCO offers a design of the female figure Scrofa standing on the banks of the Salt Lake. She has her sword drawn and stands calmly as she keeps watch for evil to rear its ugly face. You can see in the lake in the background, as well as a large mountain range. The medals in the Zi:Sin Series all share a common obverse design of the battle shield used by Chiwoo Cheonwang, upon which you’ll find the hideous face of Do ggae bi.
The 2019 Scrofa Silver Medals are available with 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver and come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The medals are available for individual purchase or bulk options. The individual medals are offered inside of protective flips, while multiples of 25 medals are offered to you inside of mint tubes. Mintage of the standard BU Scrofa Silver Medal is 40,000.
As mentioned above, one of Scrofa’s greatest powers is her ability to duplicate her figure to confuse her enemies in battle. KOMSCO took a unique step in this third release of offering a low-mintage alternative to the primary Scrofa design. The 2019 1 oz Zi:Sin Scrofa Ghost Silver Medal features a design largely similar to the primary option, however, you’ll notice that the reverse design field includes a second apparition of Scrofa standing behind her figure. This is offered as a unique nod to her special abilities and comes with a limited mintage of only 10,000 silver medals.
KOMSCO stands for Korea Minting and Printing Corporation. The official sovereign mint of the Republic of Korea, or South Korea, is a government-owned corporation that handles the minting of bullion coinage and issuance of national banknotes. Other work KOMSCO completes on behalf of the sovereign government include the printing of passports and other official documents. KOMSCO was founded in October 1951 to provide South Korea with control over the issuance of its own currency during the break between North Korea and South Korea resulting from the Korean War.
