Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States in March, a number of different theories revolving around treatment and prevention of the virus have emerged. Despite the uncertainty involving certain treatments and preventatives, one ancient metal has shown an ability to combat the virus when it comes into contact with the surface. Copper, the original metal worked by human hands, has shown a remarkable ability to kill the novel coronavirus faster on surfaces it covers than any other item. It should come as no surprise then that copper rounds have emerged as a popular collectible investment during the pandemic. Originally available in May, JM Bullion now has a fresh supply of the popular COVID-19 Copper Round.
The obverse side of the 1 oz COVID-19 Copper Round features the now-infamous image of the novel coronavirus molecule. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed a molecular depiction of the novel coronavirus to showcase one of the features of the virus that has made it so difficult to prevent. The obverse design element shows four of the molecules, complete with the large, triangular nodes that make it easier for the disease to connect to human cells in a host. There is a large molecule in the foreground with three smaller ones in the background field.
On the reverse face of the COVID-19 Copper Round, you will find a design element exclusive to the private mint that issues these copper rounds. There is a distinctive version of the US national shield at the center that includes vertical lines with three stars. Two of the stars are set in the upper corners of the shield and are smaller in size than the central star. That central star is more than twice the size of the other two and extends beyond the shield with its top point. The shield is flanked by eagle’s wings with the American flag flying overhead. There is a chain around the design element and a banner that reads “USA” beneath the field.
Each one of the 1 oz COVID-19 Copper Rounds in this series comes in brand-new condition. The rounds are available for individual purchase or bulk purchase. The individual rounds are available in protective plastic flips with mint tubes of 20 or boxes of 500 available for multiples. The box contains a total of 25 tubes of 20 rounds each. All of the rounds have 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper content.
Copper has been integral to human society for more than 10,000 years now. In 8000 BCE, copper was the first metal ever worked by human hands because, as a native metal, it can be worked in its raw form without complex processes or tools. Copper was known, even in the ancient world, for its other properties and its importance to the human body. For example, the liver requires a small amount of copper in the body in order to function at its best. Ancient Egyptians knew of the health benefits of copper as far back as 3200 BCE. As early as 1600 BCE, the Ancient Chinese would use copper coins in medications to treat heart and stomach pains.
So, how does copper fit into the modern world of viruses? The metal has shown an incredible capacity to kill viruses by disrupting the protective layers built into the organism and interfere with the vital processes of the virus that enable it to transmit from one host to another. Studies have shown that copper has the capacity to kill Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and the Swine Flu (H1N1) viruses within minutes. While COVID has shown a capacity to live on surfaces like plastic for up to 72 hours, copper kills COVID in just four hours.
On top of all this, demand for copper is expected to rise throughout the pandemic. With the COVID-19 Copper Round coming back in-stock soon, there’s no time like the present to purchase the only anti-microbial metal on the market.
