      Frequently Asked Questions

How does the appraisal process work?

Please contact us via phone or email and provide us with the item(s) information. Once we have sufficient information, including purity, weight, and any hallmarks, we’ll provide you with an initial quote. If this quote is acceptable, and you’d like to send your items in for testing and final approval, we’ll provide you with a free kit to ship the item(s) to us. Once received, all packages received will be opened under video recording in our metals testing facility to protect the customer. Once packages are opened, each item will be tested for purity, grade, and karat, and then weighed. We will then reach out to you with the finalized weights and offer, which will be based on the market on that day. At JM Bullion, we use the same process to determine the value of gold and other jewelry item, such as coins, bars, or other bullion. This ensures a fair and accurate market value for your jewelry. How are gold offers calculated? Our gold offers are calculated using the following process: Purity: Gold purity is measured in karats (K), with 24K being pure. Gold items often contain alloys, so purity testing is necessary. Methods include electronic, acid, or X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis. Weight: Gold items are weighed in pennyweights (1/20 of a troy ounce), or grams. Only the gold’s weight is considered, excluding other materials or stones. Market price: Current gold prices, which fluctuate daily due to various factors, are crucial for valuation. Evaluators use up-to-date pricing data, refreshed every 60 seconds. Evaluation: Item value is calculated using purity, weight, and market price. For example, an 18K gold item weighing 10 grams contains 7.5 grams of pure gold. The value is determined by multiplying this weight by the current price per gram. Once your gold has been appraised, you will receive an offer based on the value determined by the process mentioned above.

We will send you a shipping kit with a pre-labeled, pre-paid shipping envelope that includes insurance up to the quoted amount for your valuables. Additionally, you may ask for a complimentary return at any point during the appraisal process. We will NOT charge you for returning precious metals valuables. However, under certain circumstances, we may charge a small shipping fee if we’re unable to make you an offer on your items. This charge is not common and typically occurs in the event that none of the items you have shipped contain precious metals.

      Do you price match?

No, we do not price match.

Do you run bonus offers or promo codes?

Which precious metals do you buy?

We specialize in buying gold, silver, platinum, and palladium items. In general, we buy: Gold – including jewelry, bullion, and dental gold, Silver – silverware, and other silver collectibles, Platinum and Palladium – we primarily buy gold and silver, but we do also consider purchases of platinum and palladium items. JM Bullion does purchase diamonds, but only those greater than 1 carat. Diamonds smaller than 1 carat are typically not able to be resold or re-purposed.

What types of gold do you buy?

Generally speaking, we will buy all types of gold, from yellow and white to rose gold. We purchase gold items with purities ranging from 8K up to pure 24K gold. If you are not sure what the different colors of gold mean, please read the following: Rose gold is made by mixing copper with pure gold, creating a pink color that looks like roses and is often used in jewelry. White gold is created by mixing pure gold with other valuable metals like silver or palladium, giving it a shiny and modern look that’s popular for wedding rings and bands. The purity of all gold items is measured in karats, with 24-karat gold offering the greatest purity at 99.99% gold content. Other purity levels include: 10-karat: 41.7% gold, 14-karat: 58.3% gold, 18-karat: 75% gold, 22-karat: 91.67% gold. JM Bullion is happy to buy gold items with varying purities between 8K and 24K. This includes items such as jewelry, bullion, and dental gold.

      Do you buy dental gold?

Yes, we do buy dental gold, such as crowns and bridges. This is typically 10 karat.

Do you pay for diamonds and other gemstones?

Our primary focus is the purchase of precious metals. However, we can purchase diamonds of 1 carat or larger. We do not buy gemstones. If you are looking to sell jewelry or other items with diamonds or gemstones, we encourage you to contact us first. If your items have stones smaller than 1 carat, we encourage you to have them removed first. We do not have a stone removal and return service, and we will not provide a separate offer for the purchase of said stones.

What kind of jewelry do you buy?

In general, we are happy to purchase jewelry that includes, but is not limited to rings, bracelets, charms, anklets, pendants, chains, necklaces, and earrings.

Do you buy silver and sterling silver?

Yes, we are happy to make an offer to purchase any fine silver or sterling silver pieces, from jewelry to flatware.

Does condition matter? What if my jewelry is broken or damaged?

Because the value of the gold or other precious metal in the content of jewelry remains unchanged regardless of condition, we are not concerned with the overall condition of your items. Further, broken items or those with missing pieces will not impact your offer price either.

Should I remove any diamonds or semi-precious stones from my settings?

If you want to sell the metal but keep the stones, remove them before sending your items to us. We don’t offer stone removal services. We occasionally purchase stones, but typically only those larger than 1 carat. For diamonds exceeding 1 carat, please contact us directly. We recommend that customers remove stones smaller than 1 carat themselves, as we don’t provide stone removal or return services.

Do you take panned gold, rocks with gold, or unrefined gold?

While we do purchase gold jewelry and other refined precious metals, we do not accept gold nuggets, panned gold, rocks with gold in them, or unrefined gold. Our process is geared toward providing a simple, transparent process for selling gold jewelry.

Do you buy coins, rounds, or bars?

Yes! We purchase gold bars, rounds and coins. For more information on this, click here.

How will I know if my items have been received?

Once we receive your valuables, they will be quickly evaluated by our experts. When the evaluation is completed, we will contact you to finalize your payout.

When will I receive my offer?

Most orders are verified the same day they are received. However, during busier times this may take 1-3 business days to occur.

What if I opt not to sell after reviewing my offer?

Our offers come with no-obligation to sell. If you’re unsatisfied with any part of the process, including the final offer, you can request a free, insured return of your items. We will not charge you for the return shipping costs of any valuables made of precious metals. Please note that, on occasion, we may charge a small return shipping fee if we’re unable to make you an initial offer on your items. This most commonly happens when we’ve received items with no precious metals content.

How should I package my items for shipping?

When you initiate an appraisal, we’ll send you a safe shipping kit with a pre-labeled, pre-paid return box that is fully insured. If you need larger packaging or additional insurance, please contact us directly.
