The painting shown here is based on the famous scene that took place in the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall, in Philadelphia on June 28, 1776. The committee had been tasked with drafting a document declaring the American colonies’ independence from Great Britain. The image on the $2 bill captures that historic moment when the draft was presented to the Continental Congress.
