The Barber Coinage Series is one of the more unique issues in American history. Available from 1892 to 1916, these coins shared a common portrait of Lady Liberty created by Charles E. Barber. This 1899-O Barber Dime is a classic example of late 19th-century currency from the New Orleans Mint. Now, the 1899-O Barber Dime in MS65 condition is available online at JM Bullion.

This 1899-O Barber Dime has a Mint State 65 certification. An MS65 coin typically has an attractive, high-quality luster and strike. The coin may feature a few small, scattered contact marks with no major detractions in the primary focal fields. A few scattered hairlines are possible. The CAC has authenticated the MS65 grade this coin received from the NGC, with the CAC sticker present on the slab.
For the obverse of 1899-O Barber Dimes, you’ll find a right-profile effigy of Lady Liberty. The effigy of Liberty created by Barber includes a Phrygian cap and a laurel crown on her head with simple engravings of the nation of issue and the release year.
In the reverse design of 1899-O Barber Dime Coins, Barber offers a simple design for the 10-cent piece. The design on this side includes a wreath, tied with a bow at the bottom-center, that extends around the design field and encloses the engraving of ONE DIME at the center. This side includes the O mint mark of the New Orleans Mint.
Barber Dimes were part of the broader Barber Coinage Series from Charles E. Barber, 6th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. His designs appeared on the dime, quarter, and half dollar from 1892 to 1916, with a shared Liberty bust used on all three denominations. The dime was unique among the three for its use of a simple wreath with the denomination on the reverse. The quarter and half dollar featured a more ornate heraldic eagle design.
