Accompanying his image as the reverse design, Jefferson’s home at Monticello has long featured on the coins as well. Both images were created in 1938 by Felix Schlag. In addition to writing the Declaration of Independence and serving as the 3rd President of the United States of America, Thomas Jefferson founded the University of Virginia in 1819. He designed its campus, developed its curriculum, and served as its first rector, reflecting his belief in the importance of education and intellectual freedom.
All Thomas Jefferson President Monticello Reverse Coin Sets come with a presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity. The set comes with 20 nickels in total, each one featuring a 24-karat gold plating added to the coins by Merrick Mint. Please bear in mind that we cannot guarantee specific date marks or ensure varying marks.
On the obverse of Thomas Jefferson Monticello Nickels, you will find a left-profile bust of President Jefferson. Felix Schlag created this design in 1938 for the US Mint and it featured on the US Nickel until 2004, when a new portrait of Jefferson was introduced.
The reverse side of Thomas Jefferson Nickels in this set comes with a depiction of Monticello. Schlag also created this visual for the coins in 1938 and it was used alongside Schlag’s obverse bust of Jefferson annually until 2003. Following unique designs in 2004 and 2005, this visual returned in 2006 and remains on the coins.
