Great American Mint Silver Rounds from JM Bullion

The Great American Mint & Refinery Inc. is one of the many private mints now operating in the United States. Over the past decade, the number of private mints operating in the US and throughout North America has increased significantly as investors look for greater access to more affordable precious metal products. One of the most popular products right now from private mints are silver rounds. Often struck in .999 or .9999 pure silver and featuring iconic, and unique, images, these products are in high demand.

    About the Great American Mint

Located in Anaheim, California, the Great American Mint is the largest private mint on the West Coast of the United States, and is one of the largest in the country. While some of its competitors operate smaller facilities, the Great American Mint offers full-service operations for the precious metals industry.

Companies can turn to Great American Mint for custom bullion minting, with silver rounds, medals, and commemorative medallions designed by in-house artists and struck using the mints state-of-the-art refinery and coining presses. All Great American Mint silver comes from refined scrap metals, which are collected and refined using advanced processes at the mint's onsite analytical laboratory.

The primary products from Great American Mint are its selection of silver rounds. The mint not only produces silver rounds with iconic American coin designs, but also produces a number of silver rounds that feature the mint’s logo or its own unique designs.

In addition to its popular silver rounds, the Great American Mint produces silver bars, copper rounds, and even bullion quality silver blanks that are used by sovereign mints, such as the United States Mint, Royal Canadian Mint, and British Royal Mint in the production of popular sovereign bullion coin programs.

    Great American Mint Silver Rounds

Without question, the most popular silver rounds from Great American Mint are those bearing popular coin designs from American history. The mint produces a total of four different silver rounds featuring coin designs that appeared on American circulation coins from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century.

The Morgan Silver Round from Great American Mint features the iconic image of Lady Liberty created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. When the Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878, it marked the end of a five-year halt in silver dollar production in the United States. Morgan’s design is considered one of the most coveted silver designs featured on an American coin.

Morgan sat through several sessions with Anna Willess Williams to design his left-profile portrait of Liberty. The simple design featured Lady Liberty in left-profile, with 13 stars around her bust and the phrase “E Pluribus Unum” above. The reverse featured the image of a bald eagle clutching an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other. Great American Mint has revived this design on a 1 oz round with .999 silver purity.

The Walking Liberty Silver Round from Great American Mint is based upon the Walking Liberty Half Dollar design. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, and issued in circulation through 1947, this coin design is considered one of the finest to appear on an American silver coin. Today, Weinman’s design is also used on the nation’s official silver bullion coin, the American Silver Eagle.

Weinman’s depiction of Liberty featured Lady Liberty in full-figure relief as she walked forward toward the setting sun. Her forward march is representative of the nation’s strive to discover a brighter, peaceful future. The reverse of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar features the heraldic eagle, with 13 stars above its head, a shield in front of its breast, and the traditional olive branch and arrows in its talons.

The Buffalo/Indian Silver Round from Great American Mint commemorates the Indian Head Nickel, also known as the Buffalo Nickel. James Earle Fraser created the iconic design in 1913, with the coin design in circulation through 1938. Fraser created his iconic design with inspiration from Black Diamond, a resident bison at New York City’s Central Park Zoo in the early 20th century.

On the reverse, the image of a Native American chieftain remains a bit of a mystery. Most believe that the image is the compilation of the facial features of three real-life Native American leaders: Iron Tail of the Sioux, Big Tree of the Kiowa, and Two Moons of the Cheyenne. The Great American Mint reproduces this design on a 1 oz, .999 silver round. Today, the image is also found on the United States Mint’s American Gold Buffalo bullion coin.

Finally, there is the Mercury Head Silver Round from Great American Mint. Based upon the Mercury Dime, the coin features a depiction of a younger Liberty wearing a winged cap like that of the ancient Roman god Mercury. The coin featured a unique design on its reverse: that of faces wrapped in an olive branch. The image symbolized unity, strength, and peace. Those original coins were available from 1916 to 1945.

Unique Great American Mint Silver Rounds

The Great American Mint produces additional silver rounds with design features created in house by the refinery's own designers. There are three popular designs released by the Great American Mint, including:

    • United We Stand Eagle: Designed by US Mint artists Donna Weaver and Michael Berman, these rounds are available in 1 oz of .999 pure silver, and feature a brilliant bald eagle on the obverse, with a massive torch on the reverse.
    • Prospector: The prospector coin was first struck in 1925 to celebrate 75 years in the Union for the state of California. The Prospector Silver Round was designed by California sculptor Jo Mora, and features a prospector kneeling by a creek bed panning for gold.
    • GRAMMCO: GRAMMCO is another name for Great America Mint, and this 1 oz, .999 pure silver round features the company logo on the obverse, with a repeating logo and word “GRAMMCO” on the reverse.

Regardless of the Great American Mint silver round you purchase, you’ll have many packaging options. All Great American Mint 1 oz silver rounds are available in plastic flips for individual products, tubes of 20 rounds, and boxes of 500 rounds.
