The Frank Frazetta Collection of silver rounds was one of the first silver round series to focus on the works of a singular artist in low-mintage releases. The collection was authorized by Frank Frazetta Jr. and the foundation responsible for preserving the fantasy and science-fiction works of Frank Sr. With three major designs issued, the Frank Frazetta Collection included various options and finishes for those buying silver online.
In the Frank Frazetta Collection, many of his greatest works of fantasy and science fiction feature on silver rounds. In this collection, silver buyers have a choice between 1 oz and 5 oz silver rounds for sale. Each of the designs was available in a proof version with standard frosted design elements and mirrored backgrounds. Additionally, there were antique versions with matte elements and the visual appeal of ancient coinage. Mintage caps existed for all rounds, which were set at:
Individual rounds in the series come with plastic capsules and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The Frank Frazetta Collection was among the first to use edge-lettered serial numbers, matched by those on the COA. This is a popular tactic in the design of silver rounds since the introduction of Frank Frazetta rounds.
Finally, all Frank Frazetta Collection silver rounds share a common obverse design. Included is the image of Frazetta from the heyday of his career, with engravings of “Frank Frazetta” and his lifetime “1928-2010.” The weight, purity, and metal content of the round are also visible on the obverse.
Frazetta was responsible for the production of countless works of art which appeared on comic books, novel covers, posters, and various other mediums. Though it was undoubtedly difficult to hand select a few of his best, the series eventually featured a total of three different designs that represent many of the most popular in the collection. Silver round designs in this series included:
Frazetta’s career began in 1944 at the age of 16 when he began working on comics with artist Bernard Baily’s studio. His first job was conducting pencil clean-ups on prints. His first comic work included inking the eight-page story “Snowman.” Soon, he was drawing art for comic books across genres including Westerns, fantasy, mystery, and historical dramas. By the 1970s, he had established himself as a leading artist in the science-fiction and fantasy genres and his works have been viewed by millions who no doubt fail to realize the man behind the images they’ve seen countless times.
