Certified Morgan Silver Dollars at JM Bullion

Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most popular US silver dollars ever issued. In fact, setting aside the 10-year issue of Peace Silver Dollars in the 20th century, the Morgan Dollar was the last widely issued silver dollar as it enjoyed a 28-year release that included annual issues from the Reconstruction Era in the 1870s through the Gilded Age of the 1880s and 1990s, into the early 20th century and even a final release in 1921.

    Design of the Morgan Dollar

George T. Morgan, then a young Assistant Engraver at the United States Mint, had his designs of Liberty and the heraldic eagle chosen for the new silver dollar launched in 1878. The obverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar features a left-profile bust of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair. 13 stars encircle the field with E PLURIBUS UNUM overhead and a date mark beneath the bust of Liberty. On the reverse, Morgan Silver Dollars come with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This version of the seal lacks a US national shield and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.

    Certified Historic Morgan Dollars

Morgan Silver Dollars represent arguably the largest hoard of historic US silver dollars available to investors and collectors with certifications. Perfect and near-perfect specimens from this era, pre-1921, are not common. The most common grades available include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Mint State 65
    • Mint State 64
    • Mint State 63
    • Mint State 62
    • Mint State 61
    • About Uncirculated (AU)
    • Extremely Fine (XF)

    Certified Modern Morgan Silver Dollars

In 2021, the United States Mint honored the centennial of the final Morgan Silver Dollar strike from 1921 with the reintroduction of Morgan Dollars. These modern Morgan Dollars have .859 Troy oz of .999 pure silver content, as opposed to the .7734 Troy oz of 90% silver in the historic coins. Unlike the historic coins, you will find many of the modern Morgan Silver Dollar bullion coins available in Mint State 70 and Mint State 69 conditions.
