Perth Mint Proof Silver Coins at JM Bullion

While Perth Mint has authority to produce circulating coins for the Commonwealth of Australia, it specializes in creating numismatic coins for collectors. Perth Mint excels at making coin collections with exceptional relief and color. This often adds to their values while making them attractive additions to any collection.

Perth tends to mint its numismatic coins in 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce sizes. It occasionally produces 1 kilo coins, too, to attract collectors willing to spend more money on larger designs that contain more silver.

    The Simpsons Series

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of The Simpsons as an animated series on American television. The iconic yellow cartoon family first appeared in 30-second animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987, and after three seasons as part of that show it was granted its own 30-minute animated TV series on Fox. From there, the rest is nothing short of TV history. The Simpsons is the longest-running sitcom on American TV, the longest-running scripted primetime TV series on American TV for number of seasons and number of episodes, and has become a global icon. The Simpsons is now seen on television in 60 countries around the world and adapted to 20 different languages.

In the new The Simpsons Series of proof colorized silver coins, the Perth Mint offers 1 Troy oz .9999 pure silver coins for the nation of Tuvalu. Each coin design is issued with a maximum mintage of 5,000 coins and comes with themed presentation packaging and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Individual coins are housed inside of clear acrylic cases that allow you to view the designs on both the obverse and reverse without removing the coins. Each case is presented inside of a Simpsons-themed shipper with a black background and white sketches of the many faces and characters from Springfield, the hometown of the Simpson family.

The five-coin character release features various members of The Simpsons family with a colorized design of the individual and a background setting familiar to that individual within the series:

    • Homer – The first release in the series features the family patriarch hoisting a cold beer in his left hand as he stands outside of his favorite watering hole.
    • Bart – The troublemaking first-born son of Homer and Marge features in the second design issue. Ever the prankster, Bart is depicted standing outside of the town convenience store.
    • Marge – The sweet matriarch of the Simpsons family is depicted on the reverse of the third design and is set in the kitchen of the Simpson family home.

All coins in this series feature a shared obverse design. This face of the coin bears Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth-generation British portrait of Queen Elizabeth II created in 1998 for the Royal Mint of England. All images of the Simpson family used on the reverse of the coins are used with the permission of THE SIMPSONS and 2019 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

    Suicide Squad Series

The Perth Mint already offers an impressive variety of comic-themed proof and colorized proof coins for avid fans of Marvel Comics, but it also has an exciting collection for fans of DC Comics. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has released one blockbuster feature film after another since 2008’s Iron Man debut, DC Comics was setting box office records at the same time with its Dark Knight franchise. Building on the success of that film trilogy, DC Comics released a standalone Suicide Squad film in 2016.

The Perth Mint now has its own DC Comics-themed release featuring colorized images of the actors in their starring roles from the Suicide Squad feature film. Each of the coins has a limited mintage of 5,000 coins in total with 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver. The coins in this collection are available to you in classic display cases from the Perth Mint that feature a clear lid revealing the reverse design. The cases are shipped inside of themed boxes that feature full-color artwork for the particular character on the coin.

On the obverse of each coin is the 1998 fourth-generation depiction of Queen Elizabeth II created for the Royal Mint of England by Ian Rank-Broadley. The coins have a $1 (TVD) face value issued by Tuvalu. The reverse side features the Suicide Squad logo and a unique colorized design. Available issues include:

    • Harley Quinn – The second release in the series, Harley Quinn was portrayed in the film by Australian actress Margot Robbie who appears here in a colorized portrait. Harley Quinn was Dr. Harleen Quinzel of Arkham Asylum. However, her fascination with The Joker eventually gave him the power to manipulate her thinking and turn her toward evil. He eventually drove her into madness and she got her name because she often dressed in harlequin costumes.

    History of The Perth Mint

Perth Mint was founded as one of three Australian mints dedicated to refining precious metals and minting currency for the British Empire. Today, the Perth Mint is the only remaining mint from the three original branches of the Royal Mint, making it the oldest mint in Australia. After Australia gained independence in 1901, Perth Mint continued pressing coins for the British government. It didn’t fall under authority of the Government of Western Australia until 1970, although it did process low denomination coins for Australia while run by the British.

Perth Mint still stamps a variety of currency for the Australian government. The mint’s popularity, however, comes from its highly desirable numismatic coins and bullion bars. Proof silver coins struck by Perth are 99.9 percent pure and have legal tender status, guaranteeing the coins’ purity and weight by the Australian government. The actual value of its numismatic coins, however, is higher than the face value.

Perth Mint gained considerable popularity in October 2011 when it stamped a 99.9 percent pure gold coin weighing 1,012 kg (2,231 lbs), setting world records in categories for most valuable, heaviest, and largest gold coin.

Other Proof Silver Coins from Perth Mint

The above sections discuss the newest programs from the Perth Mint with multiple planned designs. There are other programs that have infrequent releases or smaller offerings that Perth has released over the years. The following is a brief list of some of these popular collections:

    • Star Trek Proof Colorized Coins – unique designs were issued throughout this series honoring the characters and the actors who portrayed them on American television over the course of the four different decades in which Star Trek TV series appeared. This includes characters from each of the five different TV series to have aired since 1966.
    • Norse Gods & Goddesses Coins – these 2 oz antique silver coins were issued with Norse Gods in 2016 and Norse Goddesses in 2017. Each design depicted a different major god from Norse mythology and was struck in high-relief on a rimless blank.
    • Australian Kookaburra, Koala, and Kangaroo Series – Individual sets of 1 ounce coins featuring images of animals associated with Australia. Perth Mint releases a new set annually.
    • Lunar Series – A collection of 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce coins celebrating Chinese astrological symbols including Year of the Goat, Year of the Snake, and Year of the Horse.
    • Lunar Calendar Series – A set of four one ounce rectangular coins.

Perth Mint continues to design new proof silver coin series to attract collectors from all over the world. The mint’s diverse collection makes it possible for beginners to purchase coins without spending large amounts of money.

Why Collectors Buy Perth Mint Silver Coins

Collectors have several good reasons to purchase Perth Mint silver coins. The mint has a reputation for producing 99.9 percent pure silver coins in a variety of sizes. This makes it possible for collectors to choose coins that fit their budgets without worrying that they will lose value. The mint also includes certificates with most of its products, guaranteeing that they are authentic proof silver coins instead of unofficial reproductions or counterfeits.

Perth Mint’s ability to create stunning designs also attracts collectors. Beginning and advanced collectors value the exceptional relief, artistic designs, and stunning colors that Perth Mint uses to make its coins stand out as some of the most collectible numismatic coins in the world.

Perth also limits the mintages on some of its coins, making them more rare than others produced out there. Limited mintages prevent oversaturation in the market.

Buying Perth Mint Proof Silver Coins

While many Perth Mint proof silver coins are stamped with face values, collectors should expect to spend more than the amount printed on each coin. The 2013 1 oz Australian $5 Silver Pavo Proof Coin, for instance usually sells for over $100. Actual values vary according to collectibility, size, and the current price of silver. Popular coins minted in limited editions often sell at the highest prices regardless of what their face values state.

Perth Mint’s interesting designs and competitive rates make it a favorite among collectors. Anyone interested in starting or adding to a collection should purchase Perth Mint proof silver coins from JMBullion.com.
