The United States Mint offers its coveted American Silver Eagles in 2026 amidst both the 40th anniversary of the American Eagle bullion series and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. While bullion versions of the American Silver Eagle are unchanged for 2026, the Proof Silver Eagle and Burnished Silver Eagle feature a unique Dual Date obverse and a Liberty Bell privy honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary.
In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle for the first time. That initial release of Silver Eagles featured 1 oz BU Silver Eagles and 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles. Over the course of four decades, the series has maintained its BU and Proof options, with the Burnished Silver Eagle introduced in 2006. All three coins are once again available in 2026 as the US Mint marks the 40th anniversary of this series.
More importantly, in 2026, the US Mint is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the moment that served as the foundation of a new nation. In honor of the America 250 celebration, the US Mint added two special features to the Proof Silver Eagle and the Burnished Silver Eagle.
On the obverse of these collectible versions of the American Silver Eagle, you will find a dual date mark of 1776-2026, honoring the nation’s founding date and its semiquincentennial. Additionally, there is an America 250 privy mark that appears as the Liberty Bell with the numerals 250.
Another unique facet of the 2026 Silver Eagle lineup is the change to the finish on the Burnished Silver Eagle. The typical finish on the Burnished Silver Eagle offers matte visuals, a result of the special treatment of the blanks prior to production. For the 2026 Burnished Silver Eagle, the US Mint offers an Enhanced Burnished finish. While matte visual elements are still present on the coins, these are contrasted with selective mirrored finishes to create a more beautiful specimen.
