As the third year of production got underway for the America the Beautiful quarters, it was clear that investors and collectors were clamoring for these coins. Produced by the United States Mint at its Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities, the series consists of five new coins each year. The 2012 ATB Silver Coins represented five new states or territories from America, and are available online courtesy of JM Bullion.
America the Beautiful is a 56-coin series of American quarters that feature images of national parks, forests, and monuments from across the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and the nation’s overseas territories. In total, the coin series will feature all 50 states, the five territories of Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam.
The America the Beautiful coin series was authorized with passage of the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 by Congress. The series is not the same as the original state quarters series that was introduced late in the 20th century. That particular series featured circulation US quarters with new reverse designs. These coins are 5 oz coins that are much larger, and not intended for direct circulation in the US economy.
Each year, the United States Mint releases five new coins in the ATB series. The program was launched in 2010, and is scheduled to run through at least 2021. With just one coin scheduled for release in 2021, the Secretary of the Treasury has the power to extend the series through 2033.
As with the previous two years of America the Beautiful coins, there are five new designs available for investors and collectors to look at on JM Bullion. The following is a breakdown of the new coins introduced as part of the 2012 ATB Silver coin series:
Each 2012 ATB Silver Coin from JM Bullion features a unique design on the reverse side that represents the particular state and park highlighted. The obverse side of each 2012 ATB Silver Coin bears the image of President George Washington. His image is the same as that which appears on circulation American quarters, but has been refined from the 1932 John Flanagan portrait. Flanagan’s design is itself based upon a 1786 bust of Washington created by William Cousins.
JM Bullion not only offers 2012 ATB Silver coins in brilliant, uncirculated coins, but also offers a variety of coins with certified grades from either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or Professional Coin Grading Service. These two companies are the most respected in the industry, and their grades add inherent value to the coins available from JM Bullion.
For those who are not familiar with the grades and definitions available from the NGC and PCGS, you can learn a little more about them below:
On occasion, the PCGS and NGC issue additional certification to bullion coins with special finishes. Many of our 2012 ATB Silver coins are available in deeply-mirrored (DM) or deeply-mirrored, proof-like (DMPL) finishes. Bullion coins with these finishes are unique and have the appearance of a proof coin.
