Protect the Galaxy Alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy

It has become increasingly clear that everything related to Marvel Comics is coming up gold not just for the original writers of the comic series, but also for Marvel Studios as it brings these stories to life on the big screen. Among the more entertaining franchises to hit the big screen in recent years is the Guardians of the Galaxy. The 2014 release of Guardians of the Galaxy was recently followed up with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the numismatic world has picked up on the theme with an exciting collection of colorized proof silver coins for fans of both precious metals and the Marvel Comics franchise. Take a look inside the series with JM Bullion.

    About Guardians of the Galaxy

The first film, officially entitled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, debuted in 2014 with an all-star cast that included Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Benicio del Toro. The original release follows Peter Quill, played by Pratt, as he forms an uneasy alliance between a rag-tag group of extraterrestrials as they steal a powerful artifact and flee across the galaxy.

Vol. 1 was the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014 with $773.3 million at the box office and was the third highest-grossing film for all of North America that year. Building upon the success, and the critical acclaim for the Marvel Studios production that mixed comedy and superheroes perfectly, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 debuted in May 2017.

The cast of Vol. 1 returned with all the major actors involved, and added Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. This time, Quill’s rag-tag team travels the galaxy looking into his mysterious past while serving as the now-well-known Guardians of the Galaxy. Vol 2. Grossed $858 million worldwide.

Celebrate the Franchise with Colorized Silver

Now available from JM Bullion, you can own your own piece of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise with a stunning proof colorized silver coin set. There are a total of five individual coins in the collection which can be purchased either individually, or as a five-coin set. For the individual coins, you’ll find common highlights that include:

    • Individual encapsulation within a collectible tin with colorized, theatrical images
    • Limited individual mintage of 3,000 coins!
    • ½ Troy oz of .999 pure silver content.
    • Face value of $2 (CID) issued by the Cook Islands.
    • Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait on the obverse.

Included in the release you’ll find all five of the main characters from the motion-picture franchise. Released in no particular order, the coins represent Star Lord (Peter Quill), Rocket, Groot, Gamora, and Drax.

The Star Lord Silver Coin features a colorized design on the reverse of Chris Pratt in the role of Star Lord, with an engraving of his character name on the coin. Each Rocket Silver Coin bears the image of the raccoon bounty hunter from the films. The Groot Silver Coin actually features the image of Baby Groot, who grew from a single twig found after the original Groot sacrificed himself to save the team at the end of the first film.

For the other two coins in the series you’ll find colorized images of the characters portrayed by Saldana and Bautista. Saldana played the role of Gamora in both coins, with her colorized image from the feature film on the reverse of the Gamora Silver Coin. Bautistia’s character, appearing on the Drax Silver Coin, is powerful and imposing, yet loyal to his crew.

While you can purchase any of these silver coins for sale individually from JM Bullion to show your devotion or love for a particular character from the Marvel Comic franchise, you also have the choice to purchase all five coins in a stunning set.

The 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy Silver 5-Coin Set has similar highlights to the individual coins. The set is limited to a total of 3,000 coin sets only, with ½ Troy oz of .999 pure silver in each coin and the $2 (CID) face value. Each of the 5-Coin sets comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, and ships in a unique packaging. The individual coins in the 5-Coin set are packaged within the collectible tins featuring theatrical images from the feature film, with all five tins packaged inside a stunning Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-themed lunchbox that beautifully houses each individual coin.

About the Mint and Nation of Issue

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-inspired coin series is produced for the Cook Islands by the BH Mayer Mint of Germany. Also known as the Mayer Mint GmbH, the mint was founded in 1871 and prides itself on a reputation of unmatched skills by its mint masters. Each product lineup from the mint is expertly crafted, designed, and refined with the preferences of numismatists in mind. Today, the BH Mayer Mint is owned and operated by fifth-generation members of the mint’s founders.

The Cook Islands are located far out in the South Pacific Ocean to the east of Australia and New Zealand. The small nation with a total population of just 21,000 people is a self-governing island in free association with New Zealand, which is responsible for its defence and foreign affairs. The islands’ status as a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as monarch explains the use of her effigy on the obverse of all Cook Islands coins.
