In 2021, the US Mint reintroduced two of its most admired silver dollar designs, much to the appreciation of collectors. Starting in 2023, these iconic silver dollars have been produced annually as collectible releases for numismatists. Right now, Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each Proof Peace Silver Dollar offered here comes in perfect condition. PF/PR70 coins exhibit full, original mint luster and have no visible detracting flaws. The coins offered here come with the possibility of various years of issue from 2023 onward, as well as various mint marks or label designs. We are not able to promise a specific year of issue, mint mark, or label design in advance. All coins are chosen at random after your payment clears.
Mintage of the original Peace Dollars declined significantly during the mid 1920s compared to the initial flood of production. The 1924 and 1925 issues saw moderate production numbers, while the 1926 through 1928 issues produced notably fewer coins, with some branch mint issues becoming quite scarce. The 1928 Philadelphia strike had a particularly low mintage, and no Peace Dollars were produced at the Denver or San Francisco mints in 1927, reflecting decreased demand for silver dollars as the decade progressed.
The obverse of the Peace Dollar displays a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty is shown wearing a crown adorned with rays extending outward, symbolizing freedom and enlightenment. De Francisci based the design on his wife, Teresa, presenting a modern and youthful interpretation of Liberty that stands apart from earlier US coin designs.
On the reverse, the Peace Silver Dollar features a bald eagle perched in a relaxed position while holding an olive branch. This design reflects the theme of peace that followed World War I. The tranquil depiction of the eagle marked a conscious move away from the more assertive and combative imagery used on previous dollar coins.
