This was the initial design series for the Double Eagle and would be the longest-running design in the collection. Roughly equivalent to coins between 40 and 45 on the Sheldon Numeric Scale, XF coins have light wear on only the highest relief points with the possibility of remaining traces of the original mint luster.

The obverse side of the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagles in this 4-Coin Set features a left-profile bust of Liberty. This visual shows Liberty with a coronet crown on her head, a ring of 13 stars around the design element, and a date mark at the bottom.
On the reverse face of the Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagles in the 4-Coin Set, you will find the heraldic eagle. This design element features on all coins, with additional changes made at various points. Coins issued from 1850 to 1865 have no national motto on the coins. In 1866, the national motto was added and in 1877, the mint changed the face value from Twenty D. to Twenty Dollars.
