After the United States of America established its independence from the United Kingdom, one of the first coins ever issued by the new United States Mint was the US Eagle. This term was used to refer to a series of gold coin denominations issued, with “Eagle” referring to a $10 denomination. These coins remain some of the most popular with American gold collectors and gold coin buyers. Right now, JM Bullion has a special Pre-33 $10 Gold Eagle 4-Coin Set available to purchase online.

The Pre-33 $10 Eagle has a total of .48375 Troy oz of 90% gold content per coin, with the set offering you nearly 2 Troy oz of actual gold content. The $10 Gold Eagle was produced through most of its striking history with 90% gold content and 10% copper. As About Uncirculated, or better, specimens, you will find only light-to-trace signs of friction on the highest points of the design strike and medium or near-full mint luster remaining on the coins.
Please note that the image associated with this product listing is used to give you an idea of the designs and dates possible in the series. It is a representative image and not an exact vision of the coins you will receive. The coins in your four-coin set will all feature unique date marks with no repeat dates in a given four-coin set. In this particular listing, all date marks pre-1900. All $10 Gold Eagles from the United States Mint featured images of Liberty on the obverse and the bald eagle on the reverse.
On the obverse of Pre-33 $10 Gold Eagle Coins is Lady Liberty. The longest-running design in the history of the denomination is the Coronet Liberty Head design from Christian Gobrecht. This design was used from 1838 to 1907, far surpassing any other design in the series. Throughout this period, a modified heraldic eagle design appeared on the reverse.
The reverse of the Pre-33 $10 Gold Eagles features the heraldic eagle design. The bald eagle shown supporting the US national shield clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. From 1838 to 1866, the US Mint issued the $10 Eagle without the national motto. Following the Civil War, the motto “In God We Trust” began to appear with greater frequency across all denominations of American currency.
