The US $1 Liberty Gold Coin was in production at the United States Mint from 1849 to 1889. The coin was relatively short-lived when compared to the US silver dollar coins and the Gold Eagle denominations, but it was nonetheless popular as a gold piece. In its short history, the coin went through three obverse design versions and two reverse design versions. Today, Pre-33 $1 Liberty Gold Coins Type 3 are available to you online with certification at JM Bullion.

Pre-33 $1 Liberty Gold Coins were introduced much later than their silver dollar counterparts. As gold from the California Gold Rush began to flood into the US Treasury in 1849, two new gold denominations were introduced. The $20 Double Eagle coin joined the Gold Eagle Series and the $1 US gold coin was born. The original design did not last long, with James B. Longacre replacing his original 1849 design in 1854, and replacing it once again in 1856. The reverse design was changed only once in 1854 with Longacre redoing the original design from Peter Filatreu Cross.
All of the Pre-33 $1 Liberty Gold Coins in this product listing comes to you with a Mint State 64 certification. Coins in this condition have an average luster and strike for the age. Several small contact marks in groups are likely, as well as one or two heavy marks. Overall the coins are quite attractive and have only a few scattered marks in the prime focal areas.
Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse of the Pre-33 $1 Liberty Gold Coin Type 3. Longacre created this design as the third version in 1856, though it offered little change from the Type 2 design used previously in 1854 and 1855. Liberty is shown in left-profile relief with a feathered headdress on her head and the nation of issue around the edge.
The denomination and date mark feature on the reverse of Pre-33 $1 Liberty Gold Coins Type 3. Longacre created this design in 1854 and it was used during both the Type 2 and Type 3 obverse design dates. It features the denomination and date mark at the center of a wreath.
Please note that the date marks and grading house label will vary in this listing. We cannot guarantee the specific date mark on your coin beyond saying it will range from 1856 to 1889. While all coins have an MS64 grade, we cannot guarantee in advance which grading house issued that grade.
