The Peace Silver Dollar was produced by the United States Mint on two separate occasions. The first one occurred from 1921-1928, while the second one occurred from 1934-1935. Because both of its mintage periods preceded the discontinuation of silver coinage, the Peace Silver Dollar holds the distinction of being the last dollar coin to be minted from 90% pure silver. Now, JM Bullion has the pleasure of presenting this unique coin in MS63 (Mint State 63) graded condition.
Coin Highlights:
Coins that have been assigned an MS63 grade by the NGC (Numismatic Gauranty Corporation) have a worn, but acceptable appearance. Their luster may be diminished by the presence of several hairline marks and contact marks. To prevent any further scuffing or deterioration, each coin will arrive sealed in its official NGC certified slab.
The Silver Peace Dollar bears the artwork of Anthony di Francisci. As with other silver dollars, the front of the coin displays an image of Lady Liberty. However, unlike his predecessors, Francisci chose to base his rendition of her on the real life Statue of Liberty. It would be the first time that Lady Liberty would ever appear on coin with her trademark “radiate” or pointed crown. Engraved beneath her lifelike portrait is the phrase, “In God We Trust.” The front has also been engraved with her name and the coin’s mintage year, which appear above and below her image respectively.
For the reverse side of the coin, Francisci chose to portray our national bird, the bald eagle. It is seen clasping an olive branch in its talons as it perches on top of a mountain peak. Appearing behind the bird are rays of sunlight, illuminating the background. Their sharp points are meant to mimic those seen on Lady Liberty’s crown. As a finishing touch, Francisci has printed our nation’s name along with the words “E Pluribus Unum” at the top of the coin, directly above the eagle.
From its unconventional mintage to its innovative design, this Peace Silver dollar is certain to become a popular favorite among both collectors and investors.
