Coin Highlights:
Each Peace Silver Dollar Coin available here comes in Mint State 69 condition. MS69 coins exhibit full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detractions. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines located outside the primary focal points. Please note that coins in this listing come with various years of issue from 2023 onward, as well as the possibility of various label designs or styles.
The Pittman Act of 1918 authorized the melting of millions of Morgan Silver Dollars to provide silver bullion for Great Britain and to support domestic coinage needs. This legislation also required the Treasury to replace the melted silver dollars by striking new ones from domestically mined silver. Consequently, silver dollar production resumed in 1921 after a 16-year hiatus, initially with the Morgan Dollar design before the Peace Dollar was introduced later that same year.
The obverse of Peace Dollars features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a radiant crown with rays extending outward, symbolizing enlightenment and freedom. The design was modeled after de Francisci’s wife, Teresa, and represents a more modern, youthful vision of Liberty compared to earlier coinage.
On the reverse of Peace Silver Dollars, you will find a depiction of a perched bald eagle at rest, clutching an olive branch—a powerful symbol of peace following World War I. This peaceful imagery marked a deliberate departure from the more aggressive eagle poses found on previous dollar coins.
