One of the most memorable and iconic coins from US Mint history is the Morgan Silver Dollar. These coins represented the restart of standard silver dollar minting in the United States following a five year absence after passage of the Coinage Act of 1873. You can now purchase this iconic American coin from JM Bullion with an MS65 grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. The year of the coin you receive will be picked by our staff after your order is placed and cannot be guaranteed prior to ordering. Whichever mint year you receive, you are guaranteed to receive a coin that has been certified as MS65 by the NGC.
Coin Highlights:
Morgan Silver Dollar coins were designed by George T. Morgan, the assistant engraver at the United States Mint during the 1870s. Morgan was actually of British descent and was recommended to the US Mint as an engraver by the Deputy Master of the Royal Mint in London. Though Morgan was only 30 years old at the time, he had already established a reputation for himself in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, there was no place for him at the Royal Mint at that time.
Morgan Silver Dollars were struck between 1878 and 1904, with one additional mintage released in 1921. When the NGC issues a coin the grade of MS65, it means that the coin has an attractive, high quality of luster and strike. Noticeable light scuff marks exist on the coin, it has small scattered contact marks or two larger marks present, and one or two small patches of hairline marks may be visible.
On the obverse side of the Morgan Silver Dollar is his depiction of Lady Liberty. Anna Willess Williams sat through five portrait sessions with Morgan to provide inspiration for the image of Lady Liberty on this side of the coin. Engravings include “E Pluribus Unum” and the year of minting. The reverse side features an early version of the heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch.
