1843 Fairmont Collection Coins

The Great Migration of the Oregon Trail was one of the leading events throughout the 1840s in America. In the early 1840s, there was a significant influx of pioneers traveling along the Oregon Trail to settle in the Oregon Territory. 1843 was one of the peak years of this westward migration. As the nation expanded, so too did its technology, in hopes of keeping the nation connected. The telegraph system, which allowed for rapid long-distance communication using Morse code, continued to expand in the United States in the early 1840s, transforming communication and transportation.

1843 Fairmont Liberty Head Eagles

The production of Liberty Head Eagles in 1843 marked a unique first for the young series. Available for just the sixth time, the 1843 release marked the first time the Philadelphia Mint was outpaced in the production of the coin. While 75,462 coins were issued by Philadelphia, a staggering 175,162 coins were produced in the American South at the New Orleans Mint.
