The Goldback collection started with modern gold notes produced as a form of voluntary currency in the American West. Following Utah and Nevada, Wyoming became the third state to see a collection of 24-karat Goldbacks issued with unique designs encapsulating the background and history of the state and its people.
As with earlier collections of Goldbacks, Wyoming Goldbacks feature classical design themes that explore the history of the state, its indigenous culture, and elements of its modern existence through the use of female allegories. Each denomination has its own design, with 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 denominations offered alongside a 5-piece set and a 100-pack of 1 Goldbacks.
The least populous state has a rich frontier heritage rooted in Native American cultures, fur trading, and the transcontinental migration routes. The Oregon, California, and Mormon trails all passed through Wyoming, bringing waves of settlers westward. The territory was organized in 1868, and Wyoming achieved several firsts: it was the first to grant women the right to vote (1869) and elected the first female governor in U.S. history. It became the 44th state in 1890, with ranching and later oil and gas becoming economic pillars.
