The second state to gain a series of Goldback notes was Nevada, expanding this new movement in the American West closely on the heels of Utah. Each design in the Nevada Goldback Series was crafted to reflect the history of a state known for its connection to American wealth and currency as the site of some of the largest silver discoveries in the nation’s history.
Like other collections of Goldbacks, the Nevada Goldback features unique designs on each denomination that capture a different moment in the state’s history and reflect a different aspect of its culture. Designs include female allegories representing Liberty, Justice, and Prudence through the lens of Nevada’s history. The denominations offered include 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 Goldbacks, with a five-piece set and a 100-pack of 1 Goldbacks also available.
Nevada’s history centers on mining booms and the frontier experience. After being inhabited by various Native tribes for thousands of years, the area was claimed by Spain, then Mexico, before becoming part of the United States following the Mexican-American War in 1848. The discovery of the Comstock Lode silver deposits in 1859 sparked rapid settlement and economic growth, leading to Nevada’s admission as the 36th state in 1864 during the Civil War, earning it the nickname “Battle Born State.”
