Arizona becomes the eighth state with a full range of Goldback notes and is the third state released in 2025 following Florida and Oklahoma. The Arizona Goldbacks capture the rich, diverse history of the state, with images that trace the history of the region through its indigenous peoples, Spanish colonization, Mexican control, and eventual US statehood. Like other modern entries in the Goldback Series, Arizona features a variety of designs across nine denominations in total.
Just like the Florida and Oklahoma releases, Arizona Goldbacks come with denominations of 1/2, 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100. The 1/2 and 1 Goldbacks come with optional 100-pack listings, while 5-packs with the traditional denominations (1, 5, 10, 25, and 50) are available alongside newer 8-packs with the full range of denominations (1/2, 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100). There is also a unique 3 Arizona Limited Early Release Goldback with its own unique design.
Long home to ancient Hohokam and Ancestral Puebloan peoples who developed sophisticated irrigation systems, Arizona later became territory of various Indigenous nations including the Apache, Navajo, Hopi, and Tohono O’odham. Spanish explorers arrived in the 1540s, establishing missions and presidios, though the region remained largely Indigenous-controlled until Mexican independence in 1821. Following the Mexican-American War and the Gadsden Purchase (1854), Arizona became U.S. territory, with brutal conflicts between the U.S. military and Apache leaders like Geronimo defining the late 19th century before statehood arrived in 1912 as the last of the continental states.
