The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is available from the Royal Canadian Mint on an annual basis. Over time, the mint added coins to expand from its original 1979 debut that featured only a 1 oz gold coin. The introduction of fractional-ounce gold took place between 1982 and 1994, with the final addition to the Gold Maple Leaf Series coming in 2014 with a 1 Gram gold coin.
In 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint made two major changes to its Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series. The most significant was the enhancement of the gold purity in the coins. From 1979 to 1981, the coins were released with .999 pure gold content. In November 1982, coins debuted in the series that featured 24-karat gold (.9999 pure gold) and the Royal Canadian Mint introduced two fractional-ounce coins. The 1982 debut featured the first-ever 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz Gold Maples.
The Royal Canadian Mint offers the Gold Maple Leaf Coins in its six weights on an annual basis. The Brilliant Uncirculated coins are available individually in plastic flips, with the 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf also available to investors sealed sheets of 40 gold coins.
