Thanksgiving is a bit of an overlooked holiday on the American calendar each year. Though it is considered a major national holiday in the United States, it is also squeezed between the revelry and costumes of Halloween in October and the spiritual celebrations and family gathers of Christmas in December. Throw New Year’s Eve into the mix and you would be forgiven for looking past Thanksgiving each year. However, in 2021, the US marks the 400th anniversary of the event that gave us the modern holiday. You can now own silver bullion with Thanksgiving-themed designs.
Thanksgiving Bar
The two options available this year include 1 oz silver products. The 2021 1 oz SilverTowne Happy Thanksgiving Silver Bar features a festive design on the obverse field. This design element captures all the bounties of a harvest, from pumpkins and gourds to wheat, corn, and apples. This field has design elements arranged in landscape relief with all the food items huddled together in a perfect display.
On the reverse side of these bars is a common design for SilverTowne-themed bullion. The central field has been left blank on purpose to accommodate requests for custom engravings when purchased directly from SilverTowne. We receive the bars blank like this. However, the weight, metal content, purity, and date are all issued on this side.
These Thanksgiving Silver Bars come individually sealed in plastic or by multiples of 20 and 500. Multiples of 20 are in plastic tubes, with multiples of 500 in a box containing 25 tubes.
Thanksgiving Round
In the 2021 1 oz SilverTowne Thanksgiving Silver Round, you will find a similar obverse design with a focus on fewer fruits and vegetables. The round’s design includes a large bushel of apples near the center of the field, with two pumpkins behind it and two ears of corn in front of it. Also similar to the silver bar, the silver round has a blank field as issued by SilverTowne. There is a festive border design, however, and the markings of the date, weight, metal content, and purity of the rounds.
You can purchase the 1 oz SilverTowne Thanksgiving Rounds individually in protective plastic flips. Multiples come in either acrylic tubes of 20 or boxes of 500 rounds. The box holds a total of 25 individual 20-round tubes.
History of Thanksgiving
2021 marks the 400th anniversary of the very first thanksgiving celebration in the New World. The Puritans and Pilgrims that settled in what is now the northeastern United States had a history in England of holding annual festivals to give thanks. While the modern celebration is entirely focused on the meal, historically, these people had celebrated anything from a military victory to a good harvest with one of these festivals. In 1621, when the Pilgrims reaped their first rewards of a good harvest, they sat down and shared their meal with the local Wampanoag people who had sustained them through the winter of 1620 and helped teach them how to work the land in the New World to enable a successful harvest.
