Robin Hood Obverse
On the obverse side of Medieval Legends Robin Hood Rounds, you will find a depiction of the famed archer of Sherwood Forest. Together with his band of merry men, Robin Hood roams Sherwood Forest dodging the forces of the crooked Sheriff of Nottingham and the evil Prince John. Using his exceptional archery skills, he robs local tax collectors to give back the hard-earned money of England’s poorest people lest it be wasted on the excesses of the Crown and the wealthy landowners. The design shows Robin Hood amidst the foliage of the forest as he draws back an arrow in his bow and takes aim.
Medieval Castle Reverse
The reverse field of the 1 oz Medieval Legends Robin Hood Rounds features a common design element you will find throughout this series. This humble setting captures a glance inside the room of a Medieval Castle. The stone walls of the room are accented by a stained glass window in the background. The table in the foreground has an apple, chalice, ink well, quill, and parchment, all the items one needs to get to work writing down the exploits of a legendary figure like Robin Hood.
History of Robin Hood
The life and times of Robin Hood are set in the early Medieval Era. There are many variations on the story of Robin Hood, but some of the key tenets of his story have remained largely the same over the centuries. Robin is a skilled warrior and is very good with a bow and arrow. He is said to be an outlaw of sorts who lives in Sherwood Forest. His work is honorable and noble, though he is branded as an outlaw because he is fighting to defend the more at-risk people in England from the excessive taxation and cruelty of an unjust king and crooked local tax collectors.
