Charles E. Barber designed the Barber Coinage Series for the United States Mint. Barber was serving as the 6th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time and had the distinction of succeeding his father, William Barber, in the role of Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. Charles E. Barber was tasked with trying to come up with designs that would assuage the American public and its complaints about American coin designs.
All of the 90% Silver Barber Halves available to you in this product listing are cull condition specimens. Coins in cull condition showcase heavy signs of wear and tear, at best. Many of them have severe signs of damage such as deep scratches, heavy scuffs, numerous contact marks, and even damage such as holes, dings, and dents in the coins. These 90% Silver Barber Halves are packaged in twos inside of plastic bags. We cannot guarantee the date marks of the coins you receive. Your coins will either have matching date marks or varying date marks.
On the obverse of all 90% Silver Barber Halves is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This Greco-Roman-themed design showcases masculine features for Liberty, with her hair up in a cap at the back of her head. She wears a crown wreath on her head with an inscription of the national motto, 13 stars, and the date mark on this side.
The reverse face of 90% Silver Barber Halves includes a design of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This image includes the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other talon. The nation of issue, face value, and the phrase “E Pluribus Unum” are all inscribed on this face of the coins.
