Prior to the US Mints release of the America the Beautiful Series, the US Mint issued a circulation series of US quarters known as the Statehood Quarters Series. These specimens were issued by the millions representing each state in the Union in order of its admission to the Union or ratification of the new US Constitution. New York was the 11th release of this series and the first of 2001.
All of these 9/11 20th Anniversary Gold Plated Quarters are legal tender from the United States. The coins are packaged inside of acrylic capsules and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each one features a layer of beautiful 24-karat gold on the reverse and colorized visuals on the obverse. The application of the colorized lacquer brings to life the skyline of New York City.
On the obverse side of 9/11 20th Anniversary Quarters is a depiction of the New York City skyline as it appeared prior to September 11, 2001, and as it appears today. Never to be held down, New York has lost its iconic Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, as depicted on the left. In resilient fashion, New York and America rose again with a single building known as One World Trade Center. Colloquially known as the Freedom Tower, the new building at One World Trade Center stands an honorary 1,776 feet in height.
The reverse face of the 9/11 20th Anniversary Gold Plated Quarters features the US Statehood Quarter design chosen for New York. The coins were released in 2001 and feature an outline of the statue with engravings that trace the Hudson River and the Erie Canal. The Statue of Liberty is featured within the design field as a symbol marking the Gateway to Freedom.
