The 5 oz Texas Ranger Wagon Wheel Badge Silver Round is available inside of protective plastic to ensure the quality of the product upon arrival. These rounds are one of three weights available in this design, which started with a 1 oz silver release and now includes this 5 oz round with a 2 oz product as well.
Intaglio Mint uses an antique polish on the Texas Ranger Wagon Wheel Badge Silver Rounds. The use of antique polishes brings a sense of ancient coinage to any silver piece, while also improving the appearance of the design by highlighting the intricate aspects of the design elements.
The original purpose of the Texas Ranger division was to help protect some 600 to 700 families recently settled in Texas after the Mexican War of Independence against Spain. The Texas Rangers officially formed in their current constitution in 1835, and today the rangers handle duties ranging from investigating murder and political corruption to riot control and protection for the Governor of Texas.
On the obverse of the 5 oz Texas Ranger Wagon Wheel Badge Silver Round is a depiction of the original ranger badge design. Commissioned by the Texas Rangers in 1889, the Mexican 5 Peso silver piece was chosen as a format for the design, with a wagon-wheel design that puts the Lone Star of Texas in the center and laurels of oak leaves on either side.
The reverse of the Texas Ranger Wagon Wheel Badge Silver Round includes the stylized designs from the Mexican 5 Peso piece those original badges were struck on. The “Piedra del Sol” is featured in the center, with an engraving of “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” surrounding the design.

“I ordered two separately, and when the first one came I purchased a third (before you guys snapped them up). Arresting design (all three weights), but the 5 oz. is a gem! Smaller than a hockey puck and with more personality. Maybe there will eventually be a Company ‘B’, or Arizona or Kansas editions – – Dakota Territory Marshal. We can only hope.”
