The Morgan Silver Dollar’s creation was directly tied to the Comstock Lode, a massive silver discovery in Nevada, and the subsequent Bland-Allison Act of 1878. This act required the U.S. Treasury to purchase between two and four million dollars worth of silver each month for conversion into silver dollars. During its initial run from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar was produced in massive quantities, with over 500 million pieces struck.

The left-profile bust of Liberty is set at the top of the field with inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and LIBERTY within the design. The identifying hallmarks of the bar also feature on this side. For the reverse, the 5 oz SilverTowne Morgan Silver Bar features a repeating pattern of stars.
