Ariana was introduced in 2014 as the very first Silverbug Silver Fairy Round. The series now includes three different fairy designs on silver rounds, but Ariana was the one that started it all. The release of Ariana was extremely purposeful on the part of the Silverbug Reddit community, which commissioned the original rounds to celebrate the group hitting the 5,000-member mark.
While the original Proof Silverbug Ariana Silver Rounds were available only in a 1 oz weight, the program’s immense popularity off the bat pushed the Silverbugs and the mints assisting in production to increase the variety of the lineup. Subsequent designs included antique finishes in the 1 oz weight and 5 oz proofs.
Now, the 5 oz Proof Silverbug Ariana Silver Round is available from JM Bullion for the first time. On the obverse of the round you’ll find the original image of Ariana, the Silverbug’s first silver fairy represented on a round.
The reverse side of each round features the scarab beetle design that has been used on the reverse face of all silver rounds from the Silverbug community. Engravings on this side include the round’s weight, metal content, and purity.
Growth in the variety of the silver rounds in this series isn’t the only change. The original Ariana rounds were struck by North American Mint, but now are designed and produced by Osborne Coin Company, the oldest private minting facility in the United States.
