Between 1895 and 1900, Alphonse Mucha released six different series of artistic panels, or posters, as part of the growth of the Art Nouveau movement. Mucha was a leading artist in the creation of decorative panels, and this would play a significant role in his growing popularity during the period.
The printer F. Champenois developed the concept of using these artistic panels for business, maximizing each design in many different editions and recycling them for a steady stream of new clients. Mucha, however, transformed these panels into a new art form, making them affordable for and available to the wider public.
Rose was the first design in the four panels of The Flower Series. She appears on the reverse of the 5 oz Proof Mucha Collection Rose Silver Round. Like many other Mucha Women, she had a soft, beautiful figure with suggestive gestures included.
On the obverse of the 5 oz Proof Mucha Collection Rose Silver Round youll find the portrait of Mucha, along with his birth and death year, and an engraving of his name. Muchas panels are considered precursors to todays art posters, and were designed purely for artistic appreciation and decoration, with no text included on original works.
Anonymous Mint developed the Mucha Collection, which features a total of six planned designs. Each will be released with four types available: 1 oz Antique, 1 oz Proof, 5 oz Antique, and 5 oz proof. Coin creator Julie Lindquist developed the concept with Anonymous Mint, and Italian Master Sculptor Luigi Badia worked on the engravings for each.
