The Death Dealer is one of Frank Frazetta’s greatest designs of all time, used by musicians and other groups for cover art and logos since its creation in 1973. Frazetta’s first designs came at the age of 16 in the 1940s, and he went on to build a legacy of science fiction and fantasy art that made him famous. The 5 oz Proof Frank Frazetta Legacy Collection Death Dealer Silver Round is available today from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
Frank Frazetta’s artistic endeavors were embraced by his grandmother at a young age. Shortly before his death in 2010, he recalled that his grandmother was the only person to see his artistic creations and encourage him to continue, reminding him how good his designs were even at a young age.
Frazetta created countless fantasy and science fiction artworks for music album covers, comic books, and paperback covers, among other art forms. His Death Dealer famously debuted on Molly Hatchet’s first album as its cover art, and has long been used by the U.S. Army’s III Corp as its logo.
Each of these 5 oz Proof Frank Frazetta Legacy Collection Death Dealer Silver Rounds were recreated by Luigi Badia of Italy, under the guidance and watchful eye of Frank Jr. The rounds are hand fed into coining presses at the Osborne Mint and manually struck up to five times to create a mirror-like, high-relief finish.
On the obverse is the image of the Death Dealer, clad in his full body armor, shield, horned helmet, and bloodied axe. The reverse includes a portrait of Frank Frazetta, the Seal of Authenticity of his son Frank Jr. Enterprises, his name, and his birth and death years.
Osborne Mint is located in Cinicinnati, Ohio, and is the oldest private mint in the United States, having been founded in 1836.
