The Indian Chief design represents the first design release in the American Western Skulls Collection. Other options in this series include the Sherriff, Gunslinger, Indian Brave, Cavalryman, and the Mexican Bandito. Each round design in the series has 1 oz silver and 5 oz silver options, with these 5 oz colorized proofs bringing balance between the two weights as all designs now feature proof, antique, and proof colorized versions in each weight option.
On the obverse of the 5 oz Colorized Proof American Western Skulls Indian Chief is the skeletal figure of an indigenous tribal leader. This figure has the typical features of a tribal elder or leader, namely the full headdress of feathers. There is war paint visible on the cheeks and a pair of tomahawks are crossed below the design.
For the 5 oz Colorized Proof release, certain aspects of the Indian Chief design are brought to life with vibrant colors. The feathers in the headdress have colors of blue, red, and white, with red accents on the tomahawks.
The reverse of the Proof American Western Skulls Indian Chief Round includes the image of the fried eagle. This image depicts a deadlier version of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The bird is depicted as a dead creature with no feathers.
