When the Aztec Calendar, or Sun Stone, was created, the Aztec people believed they were in what they referred to as the fifth age of man. With each age came a sun deity that eventually brought destruction to humankind through natural disasters. This cosmic story is depicted on the Aztec Calendar, which makes its name something of a misnomer. Rather than depicting a traditional calendar, it shows the entire scope of Aztec cosmology. Of course, the destruction of the fifth age ultimately occurred in a different fashion than they had anticipated. Instead of an earthquake, the Spanish Conquest reached their cities and by 1521 the civilization was destroyed.
When you purchase Aztec Calendar Copper Bars in this JM Bullion listing online, you will receive a product in new condition wrapped in plastic and/or bubble wrap. These bars have been produced in the USA by the privately-owned Anonymous Mint. Please note that these are weighed in AVDP (an abbreviation for avoirdupois) ounces, which is the standard system of measurement for copper products.
The obverse of 5 oz Aztec Calendar Bars contains a replication of the original Aztec Calendar stone. In the center, we see an unnamed deity, and surrounding it are the suns of the previous four eras. The mint has modified one of the outer rings to include the words The End is Near. Also included are the cardinal directions, which complete the design’s theme of space and time. Finally, two serpents are shown forming the final outer ring. Beneath this design, there are inscriptions reading AM, which are the initials for Anonymous Mint. Beneath that are the weight, purity, metal type, and country of origin. The reverse side is blank.
