Freya is the Norse Goddess of Love, and she is often depicted riding on a chariot drawn by two cats. On occasion, Freya is even known to ride into battle that is known as Hildisvini. Freya also wears a cloak of falcon feathers that empowers her to shape shift into a falcon, and she rides with the Valkyrie of Odin.
Each of the 5 oz Antique Norse God Series Freya Silver Rounds in this listing has a proof, mirrored finish. These rounds also have an antique patina added through the application of a chemical treatment to the blanks before striking. Antiquing adds the beauty and warmth of age without exposing the rounds to years of handling.
On the obverse of each round is the image of Freya. She is depicted riding in her chariot, with her two cats seated at the front, her hands raised in the air, and falcons flying through the air in the background. Engravings identify her role and name.
The reverse side of the 5 oz Antique Norse God Series Freya Silver Round features the common motif of the series. The members of the Valkyrie were chosen by Odin to ride their steeds in the sky and act as the selectors of the dead during human battles. The thundering noise of their horses represented thunder and the glint of their steel swords the flash of lighting.
Julie Lindquist of Anonymous Mint developed the Norse God Series of silver rounds, turning to Italian master sculptor Luigi Badia for brilliant 3D sculpts for each of the round blanks. Badia used Howard David Johnson’s Norse mythology artwork as the inspiration for each round’s design. Osborne Precious Metals is America’s oldest private mint and is the coining partner of Anonymous in the production of these brilliant silver rounds.
