The US Mint has long been one of the most revered mints in all of North America and has been producing the United States’ currency since the late 18th century. Through those years the mint has produced a number of noteworthy coins, but few are more noteworthy than the $5 Indian Head Gold Eagle. These coins are guaranteed to be Mint State 64 and are certified by either the NCG or PCGS. They ship in their protective plastic slabs which are also used to display the year in which the coin was minted, as well as its MS64 grade.
Coin Highlights:
The coin itself weighs in at around a quarter of an ounce and is comprised of 90% pure gold. Officially, there is roughly .2419 troy ounces of gold in each coin. By today’s standards, the 90% level of purity is a bit lower than average, but during the 1908-1929 timeframe in which these coins were minted this level of purity was matched by few other mints. The design of the obverse side of the Indian Head was drafted by Bela-Lyon Pratt and depicts a Native American equipped with his customary headdress. The outer edges of the coin’s obverse are marked by 13 stars, the year in which the coin was minted, and an inscription of the word “Liberty.” The coin’s reverse depicts an American eagle perched on a tied bundle of sticks and an olive branch. The four inscriptions found on the reverse side of the $5 Indian Head Gold Eagle include “In God We Trust”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “United States of America”, and the $5 face value.
This coin has gained world renown for a number of reasons, but most clearly because of its flawless design and high gold content. For these same reasons it should come as no surprise that the MS64 $5 Indian Head Gold Half Eagle is just as often used as an investment as it is added to people’s rare coin collections. Before shipping, your coin will be safely and securely packaged in order to guarantee that it arrives at your door in the best possible condition. What’s more, we do our best to protect you against the pitfalls of shipping by fully insuring every package we dispatch.
